THE ARMORY

The San Francisco Armory was constructed as an armory and arsenal for the U.S. National Guard in 1914, on the site of Woodward’s Gardens. During the 1920’s the Armory served as a venue for sporting events including prizefights held in the Drill Court, earning the nickname “the Madison Square Garden of the West”. The building closed as an armory in 1976 and has since be used for various commercial purposes.

The project delivery method is design-build. The  MEP Basis of Design was delivered at 100% Schematic Design for procurement of mechanical and electrical design-build subcontractors. M+ provided peer review services for the remaining design and construction administration phases.

MEYERS+ is providing mechanical, electrical, plumbing & fire protection services for the project.

ENGINEERING FEATURES

Dedicated outside air supply (DOAS) and variable refrigerant flow (VRF) systems efficiently condition and ventilate the building while working within the historic building’s spatial constraints.

Systems approach is all-electric, allowing the building up to steadily reduce its carbon emissions as the California electrical grid becomes increasingly renewable.
