SOUTH SAN FRANCISCO CIVIC CENTER

The South San Francisco Community Civic Campus includes three separate buildings on an 8-acre site: a Police Station; a Fire Station; and this project: a multi-purpose facility housing the Library, Parks and Recreation Department and Council Chambers/ Community Theater.

The library space includes a discovery center, children's and teen learning center and adult learning center with classrooms, study rooms and interactive workstations.

The Parks and Recreation spaces houses two large interconnected halls, which are flexible spaces for social and business gatherings, cultural events, weddings and banquets. The building also includes large classrooms for learning enrichment and crafts, exercise rooms, dance spaces and a commercial kitchen to support the events.

The Council Chambers host the live-broadcast City Council meetings and are designed as flexible space which can also be used as a community theater for lectures and performances.

The project delivery method used was design-bid-build. MEYERS+ was the engineer of record for the project.

MEYERS+ provided mechanical, electrical, plumbing & fire protection and energy modeling services.

ENGINEERING FEATURES

The HVAC system strategy for the library maximizes cooling via outside air economizer and lowest life-cycle cost. 

The Council Chambers are wrapped with a pre-function gallery, which is a mixed-mode space allowing for natural ventilation.
