SFO WEST FIELD CARGO AND GROUND SERVICE MAINTENANCE FACILITIES
As part of SFO’s Airport Development Plan to improve and modernize airport facilities, Cargo Building 730 will be demolished and replaced with a new phased mixed-use Cargo Facility Building 720 with 237,000 GSF of cargo storage space and 70,700 SF of warm shell office space for maintenance and operations. The new 16,720 SF GSE Building 742 will replace the existing Fleet Maintenance Facility with a new modern state-of-the art facility for the airport’s fleet.
The new cargo facility will include 95,000 square feet of cargo area and 25,000 square feet of mezzanine office space. It will also provide landside maneuvering depth to accommodate approximately 30 trucks, extending from West Field Road. The 17,000 square-foot GSE maintenance facility will be situated on-site, but physically separate from the main cargo facility.
The project is targeting LEED Gold certification.
The project delivery method is Contractor Design–Build. Core trade mechanical and electrical subcontractors were brought on board at the end of schematic design. M+ services include the Stakeholder Engagement Process during the programming phase, development of the Basis of Implementation and peer reviews in subsequent design and construction administration phases.
MEYERS+ is providing mechanical, electrical, energy modeling and sustainability services.
ENGINEERING FEATURES
The Cargo and GSE buildings will all be naturally ventilated with tenant spaces fully conditioned using a dedicated outside air ventilation system and all-electric VRF heat recovery system. High volume low speed (HVLS) ceiling fans will be utilized in the cargo areas to provide air movement and comfort during warm weather. The building will be provided with roof mounted PV to provide onsite renewable energy for the facility.
