Leah Brennan
Mechanical Designer
I’ve always been drawn to understanding how things are built and how they work. I loved creating “gadgets,” as my mom would say, out of random household items; sometimes just to play with and other times to fix something around the house. At a young age, I became the go-to person in my family whenever something needed assembling or troubleshooting. Growing up with two older brothers made building and tinkering a normal part of everyday life, but it was Legos that really sparked my creativity. Some of my favorite memories are spending hours building sets with my grandma after trips to the Lego store, as well as digging through a box of random Lego pieces from my mom’s childhood to create my own designs.
That curiosity carried into high school, where a Design and Technical Drawing class helped me realize I enjoyed hands-on, problem-solving work. After exploring other paths, I applied to my school’s Academy of Engineering for my final two years, which helped solidify my interest in engineering. I went on to earn my bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering from the University of Connecticut. (believe it or not, there’s more to UConn than just national championships!)
During my junior year at UConn, I was fortunate enough to land an internship at MEYERS+ in 2024. Although I had no prior exposure to the MEP industry at the time, I truly enjoyed the work and the collaborative team atmosphere in the office. I continued interning part-time through the second half of my senior year. Now, I’m excited to be here full-time, contributing to various projects and continuing to learn and grow.
Did you know?
I was born in Guangzhou, China, adopted at 8 months old, and have been living in Stony Point, NY ever since. My second day home in the U.S. was spent at an ice rink!
Growing up, I played a lot of sports, but my favorites were baseball and softball, field hockey, and boys’ hockey. My dad first got me on the ice at 4 years old (with ice cream as a bribe) and I went on to play hockey for 10 years. My family has had NY Rangers season tickets for over 50 years, and I’ve been going to games since I was five!At UConn, I played intramural basketball, flag football, and volleyball. These days, pickleball is my new favorite hobby. Outside of work and sports, you’ll find me in the kitchen trying out a new recipe.
