ISSEY MIYAKE

The project is located at 45 Madison Avenue in the NoMad neighborhood of New York City. The 13,000 SF flagship store is on the ground floor of the New York Life Building, a landmark 1920s Beaux-Arts high-rise designed by architect Cass Gilbert, located at the corner of Madison Avenue and 26th Street in Manhattan’s NoMad neighborhood.

The store spans two levels with a layout that intentionally contrasts the building’s original historic fabric — exposed structural elements and industrial rawness — against sleek modern interventions. Key design features include:

  • A monumental structural glass staircase at the center of the space

  • Custom aluminum and stainless-steel fixtures and surfaces

  • A titanium panel by Frank Gehry, as a tribute to his friendship with Issey Miyake

  • Display shelving fabricated from glass reclaimed from the brand’s former Tribeca store

The Issey Miyake flagship store is a sophisticated retail space that truly embodies the brand's innovative spirit and unwavering commitment to design excellence. This flagship location is poised to become both a cultural and retail landmark, seamlessly blending artistic expression with functional design to showcase the unique vision of Issey Miyake.

To support this visionary space, the project included a comprehensive mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and fire protection (MEP/FP) design. This intricate design process focused on creating an environment that is not only visually striking but also highly functional.
