Growing up, curiosity and the pursuit of adventure drove most of my decisions. When I was younger, this led me from climbing every tree in our yard to skydiving. As an adult, I packed everything I owned in my car and drove from New York to San Francisco sight unseen.
When it came time for me to start working, I looked for jobs that maintained this sense of adventure while also having a positive impact on the world around me. This search took me from lifeguarding to stocking shelves to catering. In each role, I found meaning: teaching a life skill as a swim instructor, contributing to the food supply chain as a stocker, and helping others celebrate life’s biggest moments as a cater-waiter. At the same time, these positions satisfied my curious nature as they allowed me to see behind the scenes of systems that we interact with daily.
Through engineering, I can continue this journey. I get to constantly ask questions while learning bits and pieces of how everything works. This field is particularly rewarding because it’s tangible. For the past two years, I worked on track infrastructure for commuter rail, and I’m excited to continue working on the built environment.MEYERS+ combines all these passions. It allows me the opportunity to contribute to interesting design work that promotes sustainability. It’s exactly the kind of impact I set out to make.
Did you know?
I spent a summer doing field ecology research on a cattle ranch in New Mexico. The research investigated the impact of changing rainfall patterns on biodiversity in the Northern Chihuahuan Desert.
