I graduated with a degree in Mechanical Engineering from Auburn University in May 2018. HVAC interested me because it is the best cure for Alabama’s notoriously hot and humid weather. I knew that I wanted to live somewhere with a great urban-nature balance, but if you asked me a while ago where I thought I would end up, I would never have guessed the Bay Area.
I got an interview with Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory, a Department of Energy laboratory. Home to particle accelerators, supercomputers, nanofabrication labs, 16 periodic table elements, and 12 Nobel Prize Laureates — Berkeley Lab has it all. I knew that I had to be at Berkeley lab, and after being offered an internship position, I moved to California.
At Berkeley, I worked as a facilities engineer. I helped make sure than science was never be impeded due to the lack of preventative maintenance. During this internship, I realized the impact of good design. I wanted to become a designer to make buildings more efficient, reliable, and comfortable. I also fell in love with California and the Bay Area, and I was determined to make it my permanent home.
I started working at MEYERS+ in August 2018 as a mechanical designer. As a new engineer in the field, I find it exciting to grow professionally as our company grows. I look forward to participating in more exciting projects that positively impact the Bay Area.
Did you know?
I lived in Golden, Colorado for a spring internship. There, I gained a huge amount of respect for nature and all it has to teach and offer us. During the weekend I am likely hiking, camping, biking, rock climbing, or doing yoga. I am definitely a hippy at heart!
